Privacy Policy for PitchViz
Last Updated: April 15, 2025
Thank you for using PitchViz ("the App"), developed by The Byte Alchemist ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our mobile application.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and minimizing data collection. The App is designed to function without collecting or storing your personal information directly. This policy outlines the limited types of information the App accesses or that are collected via integrated third-party services, and how that information is used.
1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
The App requires access to certain device features or utilizes third-party services that may handle data as follows:
Microphone Audio Data:
- What: The App requires access to your device's microphone.
- Why: This access is essential for the core functionality of the App – to capture audio in real-time, analyze its frequency, and determine the musical pitch.
- How Used: Audio data is processed strictly locally on your device solely for the purpose of pitch detection. We do not store, record (persistently), or transmit your raw audio data off your device via the App. The analysis happens in real-time, and the audio is immediately discarded after processing for pitch information. This audio data never leaves your device through the App itself.
Advertising Data (via Google AdMob):
- What: If you are using the free version of the App, we use Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob, as a third-party service, may collect device information such as your device's advertising ID, IP address, device identifiers, and information about your interaction with ads displayed through their service.
- Why: To show relevant advertisements within the App, which helps support the development and maintenance of the free version. Google may use this data to personalize ads shown to you.
- How Used: This data is collected and processed directly by Google AdMob according to their privacy policy. We do not collect this data ourselves or have direct access to it beyond aggregated, anonymized reports provided by AdMob. You can learn more about Google's practices here: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
Purchase Information (via Google Play Store):
- What: If you choose to purchase the "Remove Ads" option, the transaction is processed directly through the Google Play Store. We receive confirmation of the purchase status from Google Play.
- Why: To verify your purchase and disable advertisements within the App.
- How Used: We store information locally on your device to manage your ad-free status based on your purchase confirmation from Google Play. We do not collect or store your payment card details or other sensitive financial information. All payment processing is handled securely and directly by Google Play according to their privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Usage Data (Aggregated & Anonymized via Google Services):
We may receive aggregated, anonymized data from Google Play and Google AdMob regarding app usage, installations, crashes, and ad performance. This data does not personally identify you and is used solely to improve the App and understand user engagement.
Summary of Data Handling:
To reiterate, PitchViz itself does not collect or store personal information like your name, email, location, contacts, or the audio processed. Data handling is limited to: (a) necessary local processing of microphone audio for core functionality (which is not stored or transmitted by the App), (b) local storage of your ad-free purchase status, and (c) data collected and managed directly by integrated Google services (AdMob for ads, Google Play for purchases) according to their respective privacy policies.
2. Information Sharing
We do not share any personal information collected by the App itself because the App is designed not to collect it. Information collected by third-party services is governed by their policies:
Third-Party Service Providers:
As mentioned, the App integrates with:
- Google AdMob: For serving advertisements in the free version.
- Google Play Store: For processing in-app purchases.
These providers have their own privacy policies governing how they collect and use information. We encourage you to review their policies.
Legal Requirements:
We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we have a good faith belief that disclosure is reasonably necessary to (a) investigate, prevent, or take action regarding suspected or actual illegal activities or to assist government enforcement agencies; (b) enforce our agreements with you; (c) investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations; (d) protect the security or integrity of our Service; or (e) exercise or protect the rights and safety of PitchViz, our users, personnel, or others. This typically relates to the operation of the service itself, not user data collected by the app (as none is stored).
3. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect the information we handle (primarily the locally stored purchase status). As audio processing is done locally and transiently, the risk associated with audio data is minimized. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information, especially data handled by third-party services.
4. Your Choices
- Microphone Permission: You can enable or disable microphone access for PitchViz at any time through your device's settings. If you disable microphone access, the core pitch detection functionality of the App will not work.
- In-App Purchases: You can choose to purchase the ad-free version of the App to disable advertisements served via Google AdMob.
- Personalized Advertising: You may be able to limit ad tracking or opt-out of personalized advertising handled by Google AdMob through your device's settings (e.g., "Limit Ad Tracking" on iOS or "Opt out of Ads Personalization" on Android). Please refer to your device's documentation and Google's ad settings for more information.
5. Children's Privacy
PitchViz is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the relevant age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The data collected by integrated Google services is subject to their policies regarding children's privacy. If we become aware that personal information might have been inadvertently collected from a child under 13 via these services, we will work with the service provider as appropriate. If you become aware that your child has provided information without your consent, please contact us.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for instance, if we integrate new third-party services or if legal requirements change. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App or on our website. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted.
